The Equestrian Club at Florida Atlantic University was founded in 2009 with four members. Today, the club is proudly considered a “top tier Owl” in the Sports and Recreation department of FAU with over 30 dedicated members that all share the love of horses as competitive and non-competitive equestrians. Members do not need any prior horse experience, or even a horse, to be in the club.

Throughout the year, FAU Equestrian members participate in many fundraisers, volunteer for the community, host IHSA horse shows, and put on local schooling shows to raise funds for the travel team, which competes in classes ranging from Walk-Trot to open divisions in Hunt Seat.

The FAU Equestrian Show Team proudly competes at horse shows sanctioned by the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA). The IHSA encompasses 40 Regions in 8 Zones with over 400 member colleges in 45 states and Canada and represents 10,000 members. Students who do well at IHSA shows can qualify for regional and national championship competitions. FAU belongs to Zone 5, Region 5 of the IHSA, along with Ave Maria University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida International University, Florida Southern College, Florida State University, Keiser University, Nova Southeastern University, Rollins College, Savannah College of Art and Design, Stetson University, University of Central Florida, University of Florida, University of Miami, University of North Florida, University of South Florida, University of Tampa, University of West Florida and Valencia College.

IHSA welcomes beginners through advanced riders in the hunter and Western disciplines to compete individually or on a team. All genders compete with and against each other.

IHSA eliminates the expenses of horse ownership. Horses are furnished by host colleges and are chosen by drawing lots. The use of personal tack is not allowed and schooling is not permitted. The format fairly tests the horsemanship of the athletes. Divisions range from Beginner to the Open Division for the more experienced riders.

GROUP LESSONS  Group lessons can be scheduled with Head Coach Tricia Loftus-Carron. All team members who intend show at IHSA shows must be taking at least one weekly lesson with Tricia, scheduled on your own time. Lessons are one hour long, and riders are responsible for the proper before-and-after care of their assigned-lesson horse. Please, BE ON TIME!! Lessons will take place at Wall Street Farm 10719 Tamis Trail, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33449.

**Club Team/Competitive Show Team rates:  A discounted rate is $80 per single group lesson or 12-lesson Semester package $700 (a $260 savings!)

We understand that taking lessons each week may be costly, but the more team members who are able to get out to the barn and ride, the better prepared they will be to compete at shows. The team members selected to go to the shows are decided based on riding abilities, practice attendance/lessons, attendance at team events and fundraisers and they will be chosen by the head coach.

Cancellation Policy: If you are unable to attend your lesson for the week, you MUST contact Coach Tricia Loftus-Carron 954-650-8945 24 hours in advance or you will be responsible for the cost of your lesson. In the event of inclement weather, contact the coach immediately to reschedule/cancel.

The FAU Equestrian Club is a meeting point for those interested in Equine Activities on the FAU campus. The club also includes a show team comprised of participating competitive members that compete within the IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association). Members of the club are not required to attend events or fundraising. We try to orient some things for "non" club members, but because our membership is 95% show team members it is hard to orchestrate these events. The more club members we get that are interested in non-show activities, the more we can host! The Show Team members are REQUIRED to participate in fundraising and volunteering for many events.
