ABOUT FAU EQUESTRIAN
The Equestrian Club at Florida Atlantic University was founded in 2009 with four members. Today, the club is proudly considered a “top tier Owl” in the Sports and Recreation department of FAU with over 30 dedicated members that all share the love of horses as competitive and non-competitive equestrians. Members do not need any prior horse experience, or even a horse, to be in the club.
Throughout the year, FAU Equestrian members participate in many fundraisers, volunteer for the community, host IHSA horse shows, and put on local schooling shows to raise funds for the travel team, which competes in classes ranging from Walk-Trot to open divisions in Hunt Seat.
he FAU Equestrian Show Team proudly competes at horse shows sanctioned by the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA). The IHSA encompasses 40 Regions in 8 Zones with over 400 member colleges in 45 states and Canada and represents 10,000 members. Students who do well at IHSA shows can qualify for regional and national championship competitions. FAU belongs to Zone 5, Region 5 of the IHSA.
TEAM MEMBERSHIP
The Equestrian Club at Florida Atlantic University welcomes both competitive and non-competitive members! Students can become a member of our club by attending any of our bi-monthly meetings, joining our Facebook Group and paying the club and/or show team dues. Everyone has the opportunity to try out for the FAU Equestrian show travel team or be an active non-competitive member. Either way, we'd love for you to COME RIDE WITH US!
NON COMPETITIVE MEMBERS
Although non-competitive members do not ride on a team, they have the opportunity to participate in all club events. We offer non-competitive members the opportunity to lesson at the University discount, attend many social team events, and help with fundraisers. Other club activities include volunteering with our philanthropy, Horses Healing Hearts. Any of the club members may also take lessons with any of the team coaches even if they are not on a team!
COMPETITIVE MEMBERS
The Equestrian Club at FAU has one competitive team, Hunt Seat, a proud member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) the best part is you don’t have to own your own horse! All teams require members to be a full time student and maintain a 2.5 GPA. In addition to academic requirements, members must volunteer twice a semester, take weekly lessons with the team coach and attend all Equestrian Club meetings/fundraisers.
